I have always been a huge fan of MachineGames, and worked on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for a year relatively early on in the project.

I led the Level Design team during that period, and also contributed to the game by blocking out the level set in Marshall College.

I also researched and designed the puzzle in the college, which was based on an idea from the Game Director about trying to find what the Giant intruder took from the exhibit hall by matching the remaining artifacts with empty display cases. I didn't script it or meaningfully contribute beyond the inital design, though.

Marshall College

Is it Marshall College or Barnett College? What a fun period of research this was!
(I found out in Raiders it was Marshall College, in Last Crusade it was Barnett College, but both movies filmed their interior shots at the same school in Hertfordshire, England.)

Working on the layout I was pretty stressed about ensuring it would realistically account for the famous classroom, as well as Indy's office, while remaining faithful to the movies and making logical sense.

With the puzzle, I designed several much harder versions and through iteration and feedback dialed it back to something similar to what ultimately shipped. At the time I was worried about the puzzle's difficulty, but playing the final version a couple of years later at home it feels right for Indy and is like an old adventure game puzzle in a lot of ways.

The final product is a result of a lot of hard work by the team.
